Led by Amiens and Rouen, so-called ruins exploration specialists, the Special Steel Squad set foot inside the Ruins of Steel.
As Yakutsk said earlier, it can be inferred that these ruins are military fortifications. The inner walls are made of iron, with iron towers extending above the ground. Clearly different from technology that is used in Verforet.
Story Yakutsk.png
Yakutsk
"The cylindrical tower extending upwards may be a concealed turret. I think it pops up from underground and attack enemies on the ground."
Story Yoshino.png
Yoshino
"Unlike the tochka, it is hidden underground when not in use. Likely there is a mechanism to raise the turret."
Story Queensway.png
Queensway
"You both seem to know a lot about it."
Story Yakutsk.png
Yakutsk
"As an Eisengradian soldier, but of course. When it comes to military installations and weapons, you're in good hands."
Story Yoshino.png
Yoshino
"Yoshino is also a Kougyoukei, so is knowledgeable about these stuff."
Story Queensway.png
Queensway
"Miss Yoshino's knowledge and skills are quite exceptional... The country of Nishiki's industrial sector overall is also very well-developed as a whole, and it is well known that the Eisengrad's Central Army's technical team is supported by Nishiki."
Story Yakutsk.png
Yakutsk
"But even the Central Army doesn't actually make that many things like the ones in this site."
Story Yakutsk.png
Yakutsk
"Concealed turrets are not that useful against Mist Monsters..."
Story Amiens.png
Amiens
"Amazing, I didn't know there were ruins like this in Verforet..."
Story Vivienne.png
Vivienne
"There are all kinds of ruins in Verforet, but I've never seen anything quite like this. That stone fort's special enough, but it's even more mysterious inside."
Story Amiens.png
Amiens
"I came here because I thought I could help you all with ruins studies, but I'm not so sure anymore. Are these ruins really even ancient...?"
Story Rouen.png
Rouen
"What's with your dejected tone about? This is no archaeological site no matter how you look at it. So I ask you, if this these aren't ancient ruins, then what is it?"
Story Amiens.png
Amiens
"T-then, is a fortress built by the Eisengrad Army and the Verforet Gendarmerie?"
Story Rouen.png
Rouen
"Even though it has appeared out of thin air and has become the source of Phantom Mist?"
Story Amiens.png
Amiens
"Because there's steel everywhere, you see? Most ancient ruins are made of stone or wood. Such large-scale steel ruins can't be made with Verforet's current technology alone."
Story Rouen.png
Rouen
"Then I have a very difficult question for you, Amiens. Verforet, St. Iris, Nishiki, Eisengrad and Flamarine, do you know of any ancient relics made of steel that exist in all five countries?"
Story Amiens.png
Amiens
"T-That'll be the steel railways... right?"
Story Rouen.png
Rouen
"See, you know the answer. If there are indestructible railways that are impervious to magic or explosives, then it's not strange to encounter steel ruins that can be hidden underground."
Story Amiens.png
Amiens
"In-Indeed..."
Story Rouen.png
Rouen
"Gosh, you really need me to be there for you after all. If you like ruins, you should have a broader perspective. Also, you should learn a bit more about history."
Story Rouen.png
Rouen
"Look, there's a cipher there, made up of ancient Verforench script and an unintelligible language. Let's decipher it and find out what these ruins are for. That's our job."
Story Amiens.png
Amiens
"W-Wait please!"
Story Putra.png
Putra
"How surprising, Rouen looks more reliable."
Story Vivienne.png
Vivienne
"Umm, I can't say for sure if she's reliable, but Rouen is definitely the smarter one. She's more knowledgeable in a wide range of subjects, not just about archaeological sites."
Story Vivienne.png
Vivienne
"Rouen has always been at the top of her class at school, you know? I heard she used to be a very serious top student. She was a nice young lady and she studied a lot. She used to stay inside the library on her days off."
Story Putra.png
Putra
"Really? I don't mean to be rude, but she doesn't look like one at all!"
Story Vivienne.png
Vivienne
"Amiens told me that, so it's probably true."
Story Putra.png
Putra
"I didn't know, I originally thought she was just like me..."
Story Vivienne.png
Vivienne
"Oui, I think Putra and Rouen are similar though?"
Story Putra.png
Putra
"Really? I'm not that serious and I can't study at all. When I think of a nice young lady and a top student, Queensway is the first person that comes to my mind..."
Story Rouen.png
Rouen
"Hmmhmm... I could read that. So this ancient language section is written in three different languages from three different eras. And, the incomprehensible language seems to be written unintelligibly on purpose."
Story Amiens.png
Amiens
"All these ancient languages are from humans after all. It is easier to decipher than elven ancient language. Well, it took me quite a long time, but I am sure Rouen would decipher it fast."
Story Rouen.png
Rouen
"Of course. I mean, I'm already done."
Story Amiens.png
Amiens
"What? Already? Isn't that too soon at any rate? You've only just read the sentence patterns, haven't you?"
Story Rouen.png
Rouen
"I've told you I got it right. This is not that long of a sentence. Most of what is written here is noise."
Story Rouen.png
Rouen
"The important part is this ancient language section written upside down. 'Schoe', and this one 'Nienborough'?"
Story Amiens.png
Amiens
"Oh, shouldn't this be 'Nenbourg' instead?"
Story Rouen.png
Rouen
"The third one is 'Ouvrage'. You stick these together first and read them. If you put them together, it's 'Ouvrage Schoenenbourg'. So this was a fortification after all."
Story Amiens.png
Amiens
"The rest is a series of numbers, right? Even I can easily recognize these. Let's see... 25, 44, 73, 94?"
Story Amiens.png
Amiens
"This is a riddle. But it's difficult because it's mixed with languages I can't read..."
Story Rouen.png
Rouen
"The unreadable languages are fake. Use 'Schoenenbourg' and these numbers should give you the answer. 25 to 94. 100 meaning 10? Because this sentence is 10 lines in total... 10?"
Story Rouen.png
Rouen
"Shouldn't 25 be read as 2, 5 then? The fifth word in the second line is ancient. As well as the fourth word in the fourth line!"
Story Amiens.png
Amiens
"So pull out the relevant words from that. The four ancient words together are..."
Story Rouen.png
Rouen
"'Gardien', 'Isolé', 'Trouvez', 'Éclair'..."
Amiens & Rouen
"'Ouvrage Schoenenbourg. The Guardian is isolated. Find the lightning'!"
Ouvrage Schoenenbourg. Le gardien est isolé. Trouvez l'éclair.
*BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP*
Story Vivienne.png
Vivienne
"What is this alarm!?"
Story Rouen.png
Rouen
"Kuhuhuhuhu! I appears that I have succeeded in deciphering the code! The guardian of Ouvrage Schoenenbourg have shown us the way."
Vivienne
"Ouvrage Schoenenbourg?"
Story Amiens.png
Amiens
"It is the name of these ruins. Once we deciphered the code, 'Ouvrage Schoenenbourg. The guardian is isolated. Find for lightning' came to mind, and when we read it aloud, the ruins reacted."
Story Rouen.png
Rouen
"The door to the Ruins of Steel has thus been opened! The guidance of the Holy Angel shalt illuminate the cold darkness!"
Story Putra.png
Putra
"Amazing. Those two are really professionals at exploring ruins, aren't they?"
Story Vivienne.png
Vivienne
"Hmmhmm, they're pretty good at it, aren't they?"
Story Queensway.png
Queensway
"I'm amazed that this mechanism works in response to their voices. Seems like this would allow us to go on even without lights. From the looks of it, this tunnel seems to go on for quite a while...?"
???
"Invalid User Code Recognized. Intruders Detected. All Units, Engage Intruders Immediately."
Story Rouen.png
Rouen
"W-What is that? What's with all the doors opening all at once, is the way opened...?"
Story Amiens.png
Amiens
"Non, this is similar to how it feels when a trap is triggered."
Story Putra.png
Putra
"No, no, no! This doesn't 'feel like' a trap, this is a trap! Didn't it just say 'invalid code recognized'!?"
Story Vivienne.png
Vivienne
"Ugh, that's a nasty one for an archaeological site trap..."
Story Queensway.png
Queensway
"Phantom Mist outbreak! Mist Monsters are coming out of the open door!"
Story Vivienne.png
Vivienne
"This passage is quite narrow. Watch out for pincers and protect Conductor."
Story Rouen.png
Rouen
"Amiens, let's do this together!"
Story Amiens.png
Amiens
"Of course we do! I somehow had a feeling that this was going to happen!"
Story Rouen.png
Rouen
"What the hell!? You mean you don't trust my deciphering!?"
Story Vivienne.png
Vivienne
"Enough bickering, both of you! I hope you two's combat skills are improving!?"
Story Amiens.png
Amiens
"Leave it to me! No matter what happens, we will fight to the end for you!"
Story Rouen.png
Rouen
"We'll show you the tricks we've honed in touring these ruins!"
