Ancient Lake Baikal, located in the tundra regions of northern Eisengrad. This huge glacial lake, which has existed since prehistoric times, is the largest lake in Eisengrad. Most of the lake's surface is covered with thick ice and it is possible to move around the lake.
The further one goes towards the centre of this ancient lake, the lower the temperature and the higher the incidence of Phantom Mist outbreaks at the same time. The centre, where blizzards and Phantom Mist occur simultaneously, has not been thoroughly investigated by the military due to its sheer danger.
However, railways continue to run across here in Lake Baikal. Now that the Mist Train has been completed, some say that the long-unachieved goal of reaching the poles can be achieved... but the reality is that it is difficult to reach the poles of this lake even with the Mist Train.
Story Paddington.png
Paddington
"Even if we could get to the centre with the Mist Train, it doesn't necessarily mean that the tracks continue to the pole."
Story Paddington.png
Paddington
"The risk is too great. If there's no tracks, we'll have to get out of the cars and walk, you know? One wouldn't go to the pole unless they had a very good reason."
Story Paddington.png
Paddington
"The centre is an extremely cold area where even breathing freezes. The blizzard is so fierce that we can't see more than a few steps ahead, our sense of direction is paralysed and it's considered difficult to get around on foot. It is even said that some people froze solid while walking..."
Story Paddington.png
Paddington
"Uuuugh, it's so horrible to imagine. Thank goodness this mission was closer to the coastlines."
Story Tayshet.png
Tayshet
"Blizzards can occur even close to the coast. You can really freeze while walking, so be careful."
Story Paddington.png
Paddington
"R-Really?"
Story Tayshet.png
Tayshet
"Yeah. It just happens to be nice for now. At where Tayshet and everyone stands at present, on some days it blows so hard that you can't see anything around you."
Story Tayshet.png
Tayshet
"And Tayshet will be going further from here with everyone. Then there will be a lot of Phantom Mist along with the blizzard. Must move in a tight group, so be careful."
Story Paddington.png
Paddington
"Hawa, hawawa... Hopefully this will all be resolved without leaving the warm train..."
Conductor
That's just not possible. We of the SSS are here to investigate a suspicious sighting this time. According to reports from the permanently stationed observation team, there are suspicious entities appearing in all parts of Lake Baikal. We will be mainly conducting our investigations on foot.
Story Fayette.png
Fayette
"I'm not even sure if I'd describe them as suspicious. Aren't we really looking for bipedal 'monsters'?"
Story Volgo.png
Volgo
"No, we have not yet determined that they are monsters, the centre of Lake Baikal is also a lawless region where many criminals and exiles lurk. It could well be that they have extended their activities outside their zone."
Story Fayette.png
Fayette
"I believe the rogues are hanging around the center from Sector Three onwards. Sightings were reported in the coastal area, from Sector Ten to Sector Seven. They appear with the Mist and disappear at sunrise without attacking any villages or observation points. -- Based on this information provided, I don't think it's likely to be people."
Conductor
That's what we're here to find out. Before the main force arrives, we have to identify the enemy's behaviour patterns and the areas where they appear, and if possible, we will strike them ourselves as an advance party.
Story Tayshet.png
Tayshet
"There are all kinds of Mist Monsters in Lake Baikal. The further you go inwards, the more unusual the enemies are."
Story Tayshet.png
Tayshet
"But it's not like Tayshet to dismember human-shaped monsters. Knows lots of ways to stop them from moving completely."
Story Paddington.png
Paddington
"Dis-dismember..."
Story Tayshet.png
Tayshet
"It's fine. Will not dismember people. Promised this ever since the Organizatsiya."
Story Fayette.png
Fayette
"W-Well, if the enemy this time is a monster, it shouldn't be an issue. Provided that its a bipedal prowler or whatever it is that has a human-like, simple anatomy."
Story Volgo.png
Volgo
"Because monsters don't necessarily have things like bones, flesh or nerves. Some enemies will just keep going even if you blow off their legs, while others will disappear with a bullet to their fingers."
Story Fayette.png
Fayette
"But we are lucky to have Tayshet who knows Baikal. Volgo will be on all-round alert at medium and long range. I'll escort Conductor and Paddington."
Story Volgo.png
Volgo
"Let's go with that. And don't forget to make preparations for the snow."
Story Tayshet.png
Tayshet
"Should always have an ice pick ready for use. There are a lot of cracks and crevasses where Phantom Mist occurs."
Story Fayette.png
Fayette
"Is there a link between the incidence of Phantom Mist outbreaks and the number of cracks? I've never heard of anything like that."
Story Tayshet.png
Tayshet
"Can't say for sure, but all the people in Organizatsiya said so. They were bad people, but they were a group that went back and forth to the dangerous parts of the north, so what they say can be trusted."
Story Volgo.png
Volgo
"I see, we have to respect the rule of thumb then. Crevasses hidden in snow are very dangerous. We have to be very careful."
Story Fayette.png
Fayette
"Okay. Let's look at the number of cracks and crevasses. Don't panic and don't make a fuss. That's what scouts do. Let's be cool."
Story Paddington.png
Paddington
"That's great. You all have a lot of real-world experience. The progression is very smooth, or rather, there's no waste..."
Story Paddington.png
Paddington
"You all are just so cool!"
Story Paddington.png
Paddington
"Everyone of you is very skilled in combat and survival techniques. A small group of elite people is exactly what we are looking for."
Conductor
Our main mission as the advance team is reconnaissance. We are to avoid combat as much as possible, and even if we do engage, we are expected to kill the enemy quickly and efficiently. The three of you are well suited for this kind of work.
Paddington
"Miss Volgo is considered the best sniper in Eisengrad. And Fayette, who belongs to a secret task force of the Order of St. Iris. The two of you are Train Knights with a lot of experience in frontline combat."
Conductor
Although both of them will be reliable enough as our main force, the key to this operation is Tayshet, who is familiar with the geography of northern Eisengrad.
Conductor
She was with an organization that hunts victims around the northern danger zones until she was protected by the Eisengradian Army. she has a better sense of smell than a professional soldier, and has even been to the centre of Lake Baikal.
Story Paddington.png
Paddington
"Lake Baikal is the largest lake in Eisengrad. It is said to be the clearest and most beautiful lake in the world, but this place is more dangerous than Loren Citadel beyond Sector Three..."
Conductor
Our objective this time is not to get closer to the centre. It is to investigate suspicious persons and any objects appearing between Sectors Seven to Ten. We will be very careful to ensure that the outer Sectors do not become danger zones as well.
Story Tayshet.png
Tayshet
"A nasty wind is blowing. The smell of snow and ice is mixed with the smell of blood..."
