Putra	"Pant... it's just one after another."
Putra	"The enemy is getting stronger and stronger. Maybe we were right to retreat early."
Vivienne	"Thanks to Conductor and Finchley's decisions. If we had stayed deeper in the forest, we would have been completely surrounded by now."
Putra	"Hey Conductor, we're about to reach the Mist Train, right?"
Conductor	No. The visibility is still too poor for us to get a visual confirmation. If it wasn't for the Mist, we would have seen it by now.
Conductor	But we can never be too careful. We don't know what will happen until we get on board and away from the Mist. Stay vigilant, even if you can see the Train within arm's reach.
Putra	"But the nature of the Mist Train is magical, it also acts as a kind of magical barrier, doesn't it? Wouldn't it be unlikely that an enemy is hiding inside a stationary Train?"
Paddington	"The magic that surrounds the Mist Train acts like a ward or shield. However, it's not enough to withstand strong attacks. Tactics such as holing up inside the Phantom Mist are unviable."
Paddington	"...and it should say so in the manual!"
Putra	"How very kind of you..."
Conductor	There are plenty of exceptions that are not in the manual. At least while we can see through the Mist, we should be prepared for every possible situation.
Vivienne	'Come to think of it... I've seen weird illusions in the forests of Verforet too.'
Putra	"Illusions?"
Finchley	"Come to think of it, Vivienne was a ranger in the Verforet Gendarmerie. Is it still as bad as ever near the border?"
Vivienne	"Yes, the border area is still on high alert. Though our vets say it's a lot calmer than it used to be."
Conductor	The northern part of Verforet faces the country of Eisengrad, so the incidence of Phantom Mist is quite high. It is not uncommon for special Phantom Mist to occur, as it does now.
Vivienne	"You've fought in many places, haven't you, Instructor Finchley? What kinds of Phantom Mist have you seen so far? You've fought some of the most powerful enemies we've ever known, no?"
Finchley	"I've done a lot of expeditionary work outside my country. I've had my fair share of experience. I've fought in both Eisengrad and Verforet."
Finchley	"But if I had to name my toughest battle. It's St. Iris, in an area that was supposed to be relatively safe."
Queensway	"So you've encountered vicious enemies in places where there's strong barriers..."
Yakutsk	"That's also what happened to us the other day."
Finchley	"I'm sure Conductor has heard rumours about it too? It's the incident involving one of the SSS cadet's field training."
Conductor	I know quite a lot of details about that case. It's an account that Finchley is directly involved in. As the commander of the SSS, and as Finchley's superior officer, I agree it's a case I need to know about.
Finchley	"Hah, you're a total joy to talk to."
Queensway	"Um, is that a bad thing for us to hear?"
Conductor	I don't want to talk about it from here. We leave this to Finchley's discretion.
Finchley	"No, I'll talk."
Finchley	"I've... twice wiped out almost everyone under my command through my own mistakes."
Queensway	"Wiped out..."
Finchley	"I have put dozens of my men at risk. It's not just injuries... deaths too."
Finchley	"The first time was when I was a cadet in the SSS, when I had my first field training with an elite unit of the Order as our escorts."
Finchley	"We were escorted by well seasoned, hardened veterans. We were also in a thoroughly-explored safe zone, so we felt safe and secure. No one was afraid."
Conductor	But they encountered threats. Threats so strong that even the elites of the Order could not stand up to it...
Finchley	"Aye, the Knights fought to protect the cadets, too, but even to the untrained eye, it could not be said that we're enjoying ourselves. One new Phantom Mist after another, and we were quickly surrounded."
Queensway	"So what happened to the cadets!?"
Finchley	"Only one of the cadets stood up to the enemy. She was the leader of the cadets and also the head of the student dormitory. She's a senior student I had always admired."
Finchley	"That senior stood alone to protect us."
Queensway	"Wow, such a person was among the cadets at the time?"
Finchley	"But I joined without knowing my senior's intentions. Being tactless I was, I jumped into enemy lines to save my senior. As a result... I got my senior seriously injured and the cadets were attacked by the enemy one after another."
Finchley	"It was a special Mist Monster that could disappear at will. She had noticed it. But because I couldn't keep up with my senior's speed, our formation broke down."
Queensway	"Disappearing Mist Monsters..."
Conductor	"Ones that disappear, ones that can impersonate your allies. Ones that lure you into the Mist by making you think it's a town or village. All sorts exist in this world.
Conductor	So don't get caught up in any one piece of information when navigating through the Mist. Finchley got the word 'careful' right.
Finchley	"Absolutely. In the battle against the phantom Mist, 'I got caught by surprise' is no excuse. You must always think, always doubt, judge and decide. The Phantom Mist that interferes with those decisions is... more formidable than any Monster."
Finchley	"Prepare for irregularities. Don't let momentum get the better of you. Do not be overconfident in your strength. I want... you all to come back alive."
Queensway	"...Yes."
Vivienne	"Let's not take it easy until the very end."
Yoshino	"We will all help each other."
Everyone's expression clearly stirred when they learned about Finchley's past. Those of us here have been selected from different countries as outstanding train knights. Many of them lack real combat experience.
It is difficult to know the true terror that lurks in the Mist. It is difficult to learn it and come back alive.
Finchley	"Anyhow, I'll lead the way from here. The Mist Train is just around the corner... Let's proceed carefully."
Finchley is an excellent train knight.
Because she knows the terror that the Phantom Mist creates. She is still fighting on the front line... and she is still alive.
