I'm Bestyakh of the Eisengrad Northern Army. I thought I couldn't go back into the service, but Dearest Sister pulled some strings so I could. Well, now I'm here with the SSS, so I'll be with her a bit longer. I'm pretty knowledgeable about the Mist and ancient machinery, just so you know. It's a pleasure to work with you.

Main Story

Story Arc 1

Bestyakh is Yakutsk's younger twin sister. Formerly a soldier of the Eisengrad Northern Army, Bestyakh defected as a Resistance executive after her disdain for Yakutsk's decisions to put her on the Eisengrad Reserve Army after the White Wind incident in the Siberian Railway, not allowing her to be recognized by her own sister as an equal. She has also discovered the truth of the Mist from Tayshet's coerced information, having extensive knowledge of it and the artifacts the Mist brought in.

While Murmansk was unable to identify Bestyakh's identity while inside the moving Mist Train, just after their encounter with the Castle Spider Mist Monster during the Eisengrad saga, she is able to sense Bestyakh's immense power, far exceeding the power levels of the Fortress Spider that the team struggled to fight against. Her snipers assassinated one of Eisengrad's officers right after their political plot to dismantle the SSS by implanting a giant Mist Monster worm during the Mist Train ceremony in order for Eisengrad to secede from the SSS.

Bestyakh was briefly seen during the Flamarine saga by Vivienne when the Resistance retrieved Luxor post-conflict against the SSS, though at the time her older sister doubted despite Vivienne's description.

Detroit saw Bestyakh again on the 2nd Eisengrad saga during their fight against the large horde of the Wandering Lives at Fort Loren, northern wasteland of Eisengrad. Detroit does not know her name or affiliation, and is unable to subdue her for questioning after they both took out the horde leader under thick Mist. Yakutsk identified the person to be Bestyakh, after Detroit described her ability to vanish into thin air under the blizzard, considered to be advanced Eisengrad magic. Yakutsk wondered at the reason behind Bestyakh's activities on Fort Loren. Fayette correctly deduced that she's working under orders of the Resistance based on reports from the Out-Siders, but that angered Yakutsk to the point of infighting and she swore to subdue her own twin sister by any means.

Using further information from the Out-Siders, the team counter-ambushed and subdued Bestyakh. Yakutsk directly interrogated her reasons for betraying the Eisengrad Northern Army. Bestyakh stated that she wants to know the truth of the Mist itself and finally be strong, something her older sister never granted as she was overprotective. She took advantage of Tayshet during her re-education by the Eisengrad government as a conscript, pretending to be her friend, and obtained as much information as possible on how to survive in it as Tayshet was a former assassin on the Lake Baikal area. Bestyakh joined the Resistance, knowing that she'll be used by them, but in return she got the power and experience she desperately wanted. Bestyakh escaped from the SSS, but it was all just as planned as she was tracked, Yakutsk knowing her sister's habit of being "straight to the point" when startled.

The SSS followed, but they had to wait in a cave as the blizzard worsened. The team heard three short bursts of whistle signals while engaging the Wandering Lives again, which they fight towards the direction of the sound. Bestyakh was alone fighting against the monsters summoned by the Mistism cult, furious that they came in despite her warning. The cult summoned a samantha to kill Bestyakh, but Queenrose arrived in time to resume Bestyakh's failed mission to stop the Mistism cult's ritual, whilst announcing to Bestyakh that their leader has dismissed her for outliving her usefulness for the Resistance.

The two sisters sorted out their differences post-battle, and Yakutsk apologized for her previous mistake in the past. Bestyakh was arrested to be put on trial as a former Resistance member, but she eventually rejoined the SSS as a train knight, with Conductor and her older sister Yakutsk pulling the political strings to reinstate her despite her past.

Trivia

  • Bestyakh's birthday is the Circassian Day of Mourning, it is mourned every year in remembrance of the victims of the Russo-Circassian War and the subsequent Circassian genocide by members of the Circassian diaspora. It is a non-working day in three republics of the Russian Federation (Adygea, Kabardino-Balkaria and Karachay-Cherkessia) as well as in the Circassian villages of the Krasnodar Krai.
  • As a Resistance executive, the faction emblems are marked on the neck of Bestyakh's blouse, as well as on both of her sleeves.
  • Bestyakh's hairband is a reference to the two roofed towers attached to the Nizhny Bestyakh Station entrance.
  • Yakutsk is Bestyakh's identical twin elder sister. Nizhny Bestyakh is currently the central station for the city of Yakutsk, at least until the plans to cross the Lena River has been approved to complete the Amur-Yakutsk main line.
  • Bestyakh's favourite food is pirozhki. Pirozhki are Russian and Ukrainian baked or fried yeast-leavened boat-shaped buns with a variety of fillings. Pirozhki are a popular street food and comfort food in Russia.

Nizhny Bestyakh station, opened on July 1, 2019, is the terminal railway station of the Amur-Yakutsk Mainline, 30km from Yakutsk, and is 10km from the village of the same name on the right bank of the Lena River. Nizhny Bestyakh station is currently owned by the Yakutian Railway.

On November 15, 2011 the laying of the "Golden link" in the line of Berkakit — Tommot — Nizhny Bestyakh took place. The event was attended by President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev and the head of Russian Railways Vladimir Yakunin. The length of line at the moment is 808 km. It was assumed that a further step in the development of the road will be the construction of a combined road-rail bridge across the Lena river. In 2017, the line would have reached Yakutsk, after the bridge across Lena River is finished. The headquarters of the railway will move from Aldan to Yakutsk once the line is completed.

Passenger services on the line go from Tynda to the town of Nizhny Bestyakh, opposite the river from Yakutsk. The railhead for construction of the railway reached Nizhny Bestyakh in late 2011. The final step required to bring the railway into the city itself is a combined road and rail bridge, to be constructed upstream of Yakutsk where the river is narrower, allowing a year-round land transport connection with Yakutsk. For now, a ferry allows for transport across the Lena River in summer; in winter, traffic drives directly across the ice on the frozen river. In spring and fall, the crossing is not possible due to the movement of ice.

Nizhny Bestyakh station branches off from Skovorodino on the Trans-Siberian Railway as the current terminal station of Yakutsk. The railway is planned in the long term to form the start of a railway towards Magadan and possibly even across the Bering Strait. In the future, Nizhny Bestyakh may find itself on the route for planned extensions of the railway towards Magadan. There are plans to make it a transportation hub for northeastern Siberia and to eventually grant it town status. Wikipedia

Nizhny Bestyakh (Ни́жний Бестя́х; Yakut: Аллараа Бэстээх) is an urban locality (an urban-type settlement) in Megino-Kangalassky District of the Sakha Republic, Russia, located on the east bank of the Lena River, opposite the republic's capital city of Yakutsk, 34 kilometers (21 mi) from Mayya, the administrative center of the district. The predecessor of Nizhny Bestyakh was called Yarmanka (sometimes spelled Yarmonka or Yarmonga). Here, at the mouth of the Suola River, from about 1750 to 1850, pack horses were loaded for the long journey down to the Okhotsk Coast. A ferry service was founded in 1772 and operated by exiles for five months a year. It was a gathering place for merchants and cargoes bound eastward. There was ample grass for the herds of cattle and pack horses.

Nizhny Bestyakh is the terminus of the only road connection to Yakutsk, the Lena Highway, and is the starting point of the Kolyma Highway, leading to Magadan and the Pacific Ocean coast further east. A ferry allows for transport across the Lena River in summer; in winter, traffic drives directly across the ice on the frozen river. In spring and fall, the crossing is not possible due to the movement of ice.

Nizhny Bestyakh was planned to be the terminus of the Amur–Yakutsk Mainline; however, plans now call for a road and a rail bridge to be built further upstream, allowing a year-round land transport connection with Yakutsk. In future, Nizhny Bestyakh may find itself on the route for planned extensions of the railway towards Magadan. There are plans to make it a transportation hub for northeastern Siberia and to eventually grant it town status. The railhead for construction of the railway reached Nizhny Bestyakh in late 2011. In October 2019, the European Rail Timetable compilers report that a passenger train is now running on alternate days on the Amur-Yakutsk main line, terminating at Nizhny Bestyakh. Wikipedia
