Trivia

  • Awilda's birthday is the date of the 1972 Qatari coup d'état, a bloodless palace coup that took place in Qatar by then heir apparent and Prime Minister Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani, who took control of the country while his cousin, Emir Ahmad bin Ali Al Thani, was on a visit to Iran.
  • The name of Awilda is a pun and reference to the the female pirate Awilda, who was active in the Baltic Sea around the 5th century. The story of Awilda is doubted by some historical scholars and considered to be a legend.
  • Awilda's counterpart is Al Bidda station in Doha, Qatar. Al Bidda was Doha city's old name, but is now a district in Doha after Doha grew in prominence by the late 20th century.
  • Awilda's worldwide swimming competition theme appears to be a reference to the FINA World Aquatics Championships - The 2024 competition will be hosted in Doha, Qatar - Mist Train Girls was released in September 2020 for the Japan server at the time.
  • The design of the axe shoulder in [Friendship! Youth! Swim Club!] directly references the design of the trains used for the Doha Metro.

Al Bidda station entrance.

Al Bidda station (محطة البدع) is an interchange station between the Doha Metro's Green Line and the Red Line located in Al Bidda Park in the Al Bidda district. The station also serves Mushayrib, Fereej Bin Mahmoud, Rumeilah and Al Jasrah. The station currently has no metrolinks. Facilities on the premises include an Ooredoo self-service machine, restrooms and a prayer room.

As part of the metro's Phase 1, the station was inaugurated on 10 December, 2019, along with all other Green Line stations. It is located in Al Bidda Park on Al Rayyan Road. The station is one of the Doha Metro's most vital stations as it provides connectivity between two of the Doha Metro's three existing lines.

Doha Metro.

The Doha Metro is a rapid transit system in Doha, Qatar's capital city, which became operational on 8 May 2019. It has three lines with an approximate overall length of 76 km and 37 stations. It is an integral component of the larger Qatar Rail network, which will include a long-distance rail for passengers and freight, linking Qatar to the GCC, and the Lusail LRT. Capable of reaching 100 km/h, the Doha Metro is one of the fastest driverless trains in the world.

The Doha Metro stations design was selected in October 2013 by the Emir of Qatar. The design is called "Vaulted Spaces"; it is derived from the historic Islamic architecture as it uses the old Islamic architectural element in a modern way. UNStudio, the company responsible of the metro stations design, highlighted the region's vernacular architecture, acting as a bridge between the country's past and future. One of the key elements of the design is that it gives the exterior shape of the station, by using modern bright materials to simulate the interior of an oyster. The specific trains used were designed by the Kinkisharyo Industrial Design Office in collaboration with the German Design firm Tricon Design, to help reflect the culture of Qatar. The Emir is known to have personally selected the exterior design of the train, inspired by the shape of an Arabian horse. Wikipedia
