Trivia

  • Alexandra's birthday is the opening date of the New Suez Canal (قناة السويس الجديدة) in 2015.
  • Alexandra's friend and co-worker is Penang Hill. Both of them used to work in Night Butterfly, formerly the best nightclub of Flamarine.
  • Alexandra's fruit juice theme references the many fruit juice stalls and bars in Alexandria. Fruits are grown from Egypt's rich Nile Valley and Delta. In Egypt, sugar cane juice is called 'aseer asab (عصير قصب) and is an incredibly popular drink served by almost all fruit juice vendors, who can be found abundantly in most cities.
  • There is also Alexander, a cocktail consisting of cognac, cocoa liqueur (crème de cacao), and cream. As Alexandria is a feminine form of Alexander, this may be used as a reference to her job as a bartender.
  • The design of the spear in [Oasis in the Hot Sand] references the street lamps in front of Alexandria station.
  • The building in the background of [Oasis in the Hot Sand] resembles the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, a building to commemorate the Library of Alexandria.
  • The text written on the cardboard of [Late for the Masquerade] is "I skipped cleaning the bar" written in St. Irish font.
  • [Scorching Girl Dancing in the Snow]'s background is a reference to Ski Egypt's Snow Park. Ski Egypt is in Alexandria, and is Africa's first indoor ski resort. There is also a rare incident of snow falling on Alexandria, Egypt, on December 21st, 2021, which has not happened for a decade.

Alexandria Station entrance.

Alexandria Train Station (محطة مصر الإسكندرية) is a railway terminus in Alexandria, Egypt. It is the main train station in the Alexandria Governorate in the Arab Republic of Egypt. It is the oldest train station in the Middle East and Africa. Alexandria was established in 1856 in conjunction with the decision of Khedive Abbas Helmy II to establish the first railway line in Egypt linking the cities of Alexandria and Cairo in the year 1851, which is the second in the world shortly after the establishment of the British railways.

The railway line extended from Sidi Gaber railway station in 1876, and again in 1920 during the reign of King Fouad I. Expansion and reconstruction of the station began according to its current design and it was opened in 1927 by a Belgian company specializing in train stations. The reconstruction period took about seven years. Wikipedia

Alexandria Station interior.

The Alexandria to Cairo railway was opened in 1856. The idea of a line to allow British passengers to cross from Alexandria to Suez (and vice versa) had been first mooted in the 1830s. The intention was be to cut the time and discomfort which passengers had to endure via the Cape of Good Hope. However it was not until 1851 that the Khedive of Egypt contracted designer Robert Stephenson to construct the line between Alexandria and the Rosetta branch of the Nile and thence on to Cairo. The line is completed in 1854, then an extension to Suez was completed in 1858.

The main station in Alexandria today was built in 1876. The original terminus was at Sidi Gabar a couple of miles to the East. It was built in 1854 and is shown on a postcard. It was replaced by a modern station in the 1970s. Misr station is presently undergoing a major restoration but still evinces its Victorian heritage. In 1869 the Suez Canal was opened and the Alexandria-Cairo-Suez railway line lost most of its clientele destined to and from British India. Victorian Web

Bibliotheca Alexandrina .

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (مكتبة الإسكندرية Maktabet al-Eskendereyya) is a major library and cultural center on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea in the Egyptian city of Alexandria. It is a commemoration of the Library of Alexandria, once one of the largest libraries worldwide, which was lost in antiquity. The idea of reviving the old library dates back to 1974, when a committee set up by Alexandria University selected a plot of land for its new library.

An architectural design competition was organized by UNESCO in 1988 to choose a design worthy of the site and its heritage. The competition was won by Snøhetta, a Norwegian architectural office, associated with Austrian architect Christoph Kapeller and Egyptian architect Ihab El Habbak, from among more than 1,400 entries. This architectural team consisted of ten members representing six countries.

The library has shelf space for eight million books, with the main reading room covering 20,000 square metres (220,000 sq ft) on eleven cascading levels. The complex also houses a conference center; specialized libraries for maps, multimedia, the blind and visually impaired, young people, and for children; four museums; four art galleries for temporary exhibitions; 15 permanent exhibitions; a planetarium; and a manuscript restoration laboratory.
