Character Scenario/Putra's Decision

Midnight, well past bedtime. When we arrive at the back gate of the student dormitory, Putra opened the gate with a happy face and beckons me to come in.
Putra	"I'm kind of nervous about sneaking out at night."
Putra looks up at me with expectant eyes as she said this. This isn't a game, I told her. There could be danger.
Putra	"We're going to punish the vandals who are trashing the dump and causing trouble for everyone. I know. I'll do it right. But-"
Putra	"It's also true, that this is a bit of fun. Because it's a top-secret mission, just me and Conductor, two of us."
Conductor	Hmm, it's good to know that you're not letting your guard down. Let's just hurry to the scene.
Putra	"Mhm. Conductor, this way."
When we went around the back of the student dormitory, we found a rubbish dump at the edge of the grounds. There was a small exterior light on, perhaps as a defensive measure at least. So far the rubbish does not appear to have been vandalised.
I hid together with Putra in the bushes a short distance away and began monitoring the dump.
Putra	"Conductor, back off a little more that way. They'll know we're ambushing them."
Putra pressed her body against me as she said this. I'd be lying if I said her soft touch on my arm didn't bother me, but of course the person in question is serious about surveillance. So I kept my mouth shut.
Putra	"Come on, you monster, come on come on~"
I wonder how long it has been since Putra and I took turns watching the dump for a while.
Putra	"Look, Conductor! That shadow!"
Putra pointed to a shadow in the shape of a huge beast, projected by the lights of the dump.
The beast approached slowly towards the rubbish without making sounds of footsteps, stopping occasionally to look around, perhaps in alert.
Putra	"I knew it was a monster...!"
Putra gasped nervously. If it's a really dangerous monster, we have to consider retreating for a moment. Anyway, we have to observe what kind of monster it is first.
Conductor	--Isn't there something strange about it? Could it be, that shadow?
Putra	"I can see the shadow, but I still can't see what it is... And anyway, Conductor, let's go!"
Grabbing my hands, Putra charged at the dump vandal. I would have stopped her, but I didn't have to.
Because that shadow is--
Putra	"Stop right there! You're... a kitten?"
Conductor	It was a small cat that was desperately threatening us. Yes, the shadow of the giant monster was a large reflection of the stretched kitten's shadow on the dormitory wall and other walls.
Conductor	Normally, it might be impossible to mistake it for a monster, but if you see it in a place like this in the middle of the night, you might be forgiven for assuming it was a monster out of fear.
Putra	"I see... you were the one who vandalised the rubbish. You're a very troublesome pussy."
Relieved, Putra picked up the menacing kitten. She then gives the kitten a cheek kiss as it wriggled uncomfortably.
Putra	"You were hungry. I'll give you some milk now-"
Conductor	What are you going to do with...
Putra	"We can't exterminate it! I'm going to protect this little one!"
The true culprit? Putra, who was so smitten with the kitten that she began to look after it without telling the dormitory.
Since then, Putra has been taking care of the kitten in her room. It must be difficult for her to look after the kitten in a dormitory where pets are not allowed, but she has managed to keep it from being discovered.
Putra	"Oh dear, today was bad! I had to clean it up in a hurry, and I was almost late~"
Putra	"And if I had to sneak in extra dinner every day to feed it, our dorm mom would wondering if I didn't have enough food. She'd be worried."
Putra	"But I can't tell her the truth..."
Putra	"Well, whatever makes this little one feel better. See, it's so cute."
Putra came to the Conductor's Office and told me everything that had happened since the night she had taken care of the kitten, probably because she had no one else to talk to.
The kitten is in a basket with a lid, and every time Putra reached for it, it clawed and tried to bite her. It doesn't seem to care for her very much, but Putra herself seemed to enjoy it.
Putra	"It's good that it's energetic. But it's not nice to vandalise rubbish. You mustn't do it again , OK?"
The kitten, having been told this, drooped its ears as if it had understood her words. Putra patted the kitten's head lovingly.
But so long as Putra is a Train Knight, she can't keep the kitten, because she doesn't know when she'll go on a long mission far away.
I think she knows that, too...
Putra	"You know, I've asked other fellow adults, 'what should I do if I pick up a cat?', and they all say I should find a foster home..."
Putra said it a little ruefully. I think the adults have a point.
So you can't keep them in the dormitories, yet if you still want to get involved, the only thing you can do is find a foster family.
Putra	'I'm not saying that won't make it happy, okay? But, you know, it's always best for children to be with their real mothers."
Putra muttered quietly, her eyes distant. She then looked back at me, something determined in her eyes.
Putra	"Hey, Conductor, I want to find this little one's mother. Can you help me?"
Having not had time with her parents as a child, she knows how lonely it is to be without them. That's why she doesn't want the kitten to feel the same way.
With a story like that, it's hard not to get Putra's feelings.
Putra	"Really!? YES!! That's why I love you Conductor~♪"
Conductor	All right already, don't hug me so simply... Umm, Putra, did I smell something?
Putra	"Ah... it's this little one!"
Conductor	Oh, I thought you said you had a rough morning today... Oh bother.
