A rumbling thunderstorm roared on West Brocéliande. It is nighttime, so we can see neither the position of the clouds nor their thickness, but the sheer frequency of lightning strikes is extraordinary.
It was as if thunderclouds were chasing us and following us overhead. Compared to the scenic east side, the west side, which is restricted to civilians, has a number of dangerous areas that one cannot proceed without the guidance of a 'forest ranger'. If one were to cross the east-west border without the rangers or the Gendarmerie accompanying you, 'on your head be it', if you get into any trouble.

Putra	"That sounds more like a 'danger zone' than a 'sanctuary' if you ask me!?"
Versailles	"It's true that there is always lightning around the celestial sphere, but lightning strikes are not that common. Lightning strikes around the ruins only when there is a reaction to a magical force strong enough to call for lightning."
Versailles	"The lightning that strikes the Ruins of Thunder is not that scary, unlike normal lightning. It is imbued with strong magical power and does not cause fires even when it hits grass and trees. It even falls directly on the lake or on the bodies of us shana."
Putra	"No, it's just plain scary. shana people are way too strong."
Yoshino	"Is that lightning amazing? Are the shana people invincible when struck by lightning amazing?"
Versailles	"I've never been struck by normal lightning, so I can't say for sure, but perhaps the lightning in the Ruins of Thunder is special. Because lightning also strikes shana who perform their rituals below ground in the ruins."

Euston	"The shana calls forth thunder with their strong magical powers. The lightning that strikes their sanctuary sometimes gives the Chosen Child powerful magical powers and sometimes sends the Chosen Child to the otherworlds..."
Euston	"It is an old tradition among shana. But this is no mere folklore, it is a fact."
Yakutsk	"Fact?"
Rennes	"About that, Mademoiselle Euston. Which fact are you referring to? The fact about being blessed with magical powers? Or the fact about being sent to the otherworlds?"
Euston	"Both."
Rennes	"Both..."
Rennes	"So tell me, where on earth are all the shana who have been sent away..."
Euston	"The babies who called forth the thunder are blessed with magical powers and do a great deal for M. Verforet as mages and researchers. Some of them are exceptions to the rule... but enough about that."
Euston	"The shana, who calls forth thunder, can be struck by it. And some of them, albeit very rarely, hang around and just disappear."
Finchley	"Where do the shana go when they disappear?"
Euston	"We don't know. It's one of the mysteries of Metro. There are no traces left at the scene and there are no reports of shana of unknown origin being found anywhere in Metro."
Finchley	"A tribe struck by lightning, hmm. That's a strange story. I've never heard of such a story, at least not in Iris Cloud."
Euston	"Only shana who are struck by that particular lightning. And it's not just those who live near the Ruins of Thunder, shana tribes all over Metro have disappeared with the lightning."
Versailles	"We shana describe it as 'spirited away to another world'. We have not disappeared from this world, but we are all living together somewhere else..."
Versailles	"Unfortunately this teaching is not true, but all the shana people in Metro believe in it. Every child loved by the lightning will be happy, maybe."

Euston	"Miss Brittany. I'd like to have a quick look at the Metro Hole, just to see if it's anything like the one at M. St. Iris."
Brittany	"Of course. And please, Sir Conductor, come this way."
Versailles	"Miss Brittany, you are very reliable."
