A rumbling thunderstorm roared on West Brocéliande. It is nighttime, so we can see neither the position of the clouds nor their thickness, but the sheer frequency of lightning strikes is extraordinary.
It was as if thunderclouds were chasing us and following us overhead. Compared to the scenic east side, the west side, which is restricted to civilians, has a number of dangerous areas that one cannot proceed without the guidance of a 'forest ranger'. If one were to cross the east-west border without the rangers or the Gendarmerie accompanying you, 'on your head be it', if you get into any trouble.
Even then for the western regions where the rangers live, unpredictable events are said to occur in the north-west, and only those granted special permission, even rangers from the Gendarmerie, are allowed to enter the area. When Bourse was previously given the Witch's Kiss at the east-west border, the northwest area, including this megalithic group, became a battleground.
Story Euston.png
Euston
"Unusual events occur even with strong barriers. Thunder rumbles overhead and strikes upon the stones and the shana tribe. It sounds like a place I've heard of somewhere."
Story Versailles.png
Versailles
"Oui, it sounds a lot like the Ruins of Thunder in Metro."
Story Vivienne.png
Vivienne
"Ruins of Thunder?"
Story Euston.png
Euston
"It's a sanctuary for the shana tribe's village. It's a slightly different place, right under the celestial sphere that strikes lightning."
Story Putra.png
Putra
"That sounds more like a 'danger zone' than a 'sanctuary' if you ask me!?"
Story Versailles.png
Versailles
"It's true that there is always lightning around the celestial sphere, but lightning strikes are not that common. Lightning strikes around the ruins only when there is a reaction to a magical force strong enough to call for lightning."
Story Versailles.png
Versailles
"The lightning that strikes the Ruins of Thunder is not that scary, unlike normal lightning. It is imbued with strong magical power and does not cause fires even when it hits grass and trees. It even falls directly on the lake or on the bodies of us shana."
Story Putra.png
Putra
"No, it's just plain scary. shana people are way too strong."
Story Yoshino.png
Yoshino
"Is that lightning amazing? Are the shana people invincible when struck by lightning amazing?"
Story Versailles.png
Versailles
"I've never been struck by normal lightning, so I can't say for sure, but perhaps the lightning in the Ruins of Thunder is special. Because lightning also strikes shana who perform their rituals below ground in the ruins."
Story Putra.png
Putra
"What, surely they're not lightning rods..."
Story Yoshino.png
Yoshino
"Sei sei sei, wait a moment. Versailles just said something important."
Story Putra.png
Putra
"Hai hai hai. What is it, Yoshino Daimyoujin?"
Story Yoshino.png
Yoshino
"Versailles has been struck by lightning."
Story Putra.png
Putra
"She never said that."
Story Yoshino.png
Yoshino
"Never said that exactly, but she said something like, 'I've never been struck by ordinary lightning'."
Story Putra.png
Putra
"That means she's been struck by un-ordinary lightning? That's impossible. Yeah Versailles?"
Story Versailles.png
Versailles
"Non, I've been a few times."
Story Putra.png
Putra
"You actually have!"
Story Yakutsk.png
Yakutsk
"Sounds really secretive. Are the shana resistant to lightning?"
Story Euston.png
Euston
"The shana calls forth thunder with their strong magical powers. The lightning that strikes their sanctuary sometimes gives the Chosen Child powerful magical powers and sometimes sends the Chosen Child to the otherworlds..."
Story Euston.png
Euston
"It is an old tradition among shana. But this is no mere folklore, it is a fact."
Story Yakutsk.png
Yakutsk
"Fact?"
Story Rennes.png
Rennes
"About that, Mademoiselle Euston. Which fact are you referring to? The fact about being blessed with magical powers? Or the fact about being sent to the otherworlds?"
Story Euston.png
Euston
"Both."
Story Rennes.png
Rennes
"Both..."
Story Rennes.png
Rennes
"So tell me, where on earth are all the shana who have been sent away..."
Story Euston.png
Euston
"The babies who called forth the thunder are blessed with magical powers and do a great deal for M. Verforet as mages and researchers. Some of them are exceptions to the rule... but enough about that."
Story Euston.png
Euston
"The shana, who calls forth thunder, can be struck by it. And some of them, albeit very rarely, hang around and just disappear."
Story Finchley.png
Finchley
"Where do the shana go when they disappear?"
Story Euston.png
Euston
"We don't know. It's one of the mysteries of Metro. There are no traces left at the scene and there are no reports of shana of unknown origin being found anywhere in Metro."
Story Finchley.png
Finchley
"A tribe struck by lightning, hmm. That's a strange story. I've never heard of such a story, at least not in Iris Cloud."
Story Euston.png
Euston
"Only shana who are struck by that particular lightning. And it's not just those who live near the Ruins of Thunder, shana tribes all over Metro have disappeared with the lightning."
Story Versailles.png
Versailles
"We shana describe it as 'spirited away to another world'. We have not disappeared from this world, but we are all living together somewhere else..."
Story Versailles.png
Versailles
"Unfortunately this teaching is not true, but all the shana people in Metro believe in it. Every child loved by the lightning will be happy, maybe."
Story Brittany.png
Brittany
"Thank you for coming, everyone. You arrived earlier than expected. I am glad you are all safe."
Story Vivienne.png
Vivienne
"Brittany! You're safe!"
Story Brittany.png
Brittany
"Oui, the Mist and the weather alone make it look hopeless, but in fact we haven't suffered too much damage. The quantity of Mist Monsters is also lower than we expected."
Story Vivienne.png
Vivienne
"As you said. When I saw the situation in the west, I thought it was the end of the world."
Story Brittany.png
Brittany
"We still can't rest easy yet. If this is a sign of the Song of Doom, things are only going to get worse from here on in."
Story Versailles.png
Versailles
"You're right. We must be on our guard. The Metro Holes have the power to attract demons."
Story Brittany.png
Brittany
"You must be Mademoiselle Versailles. You are a valiant shana swordswoman and knight. As a fellow kindred spirit, I am proud of you."
Story Versailles.png
Versailles
"It is the same for me, Miss Brittany. I hear you are the best ranger."
Story Versailles.png
Versailles
"This is Sir Commander Knight Euston of the M. St. Iris Railway Knights. She commands not only the Knights, but also the Allied Forces in Metro."
Story Euston.png
Euston
"My name is Euston. If there is anything I can do for you, please let me know."
Story Brittany.png
Brittany
"Thank you for your assistance, on behalf of the Brocéliande Forest Rangers."
Story Brittany.png
Brittany
"And thank you, Rennes, for your hard work."
Story Rennes.png
Rennes
"Non, I'm just doing my duty as a ranger."
Story Euston.png
Euston
"Miss Brittany. I'd like to have a quick look at the Metro Hole, just to see if it's anything like the one at M. St. Iris."
Story Brittany.png
Brittany
"Of course. And please, Sir Conductor, come this way."
Story Versailles.png
Versailles
"Miss Brittany, you are very reliable."
