While waiting for help from Eisengradians at the rendezvous point, the sea of trees on the northern front was becoming thickly shrouded in Mist.
The boundary at the rendezvous point would be breached if this kept on going. We decided to change our plans and joined the rest of the Gendamerie with Orleans and the team to reorganize the operation at the frontline base...
Story Quedlinburg.png
Quedlinburg
"Sorry for the delay! The magicians of Harz have just arrived!"
Story Goslar.png
Goslar
"Sincerest apologies. A lot has happened and we're quite late."
Story Vivienne.png
Vivienne
"Goslar, Quedlinburg, you two are safe."
Story Yakutsk.png
Yakutsk
"I'm glad you've made it. We were so close to leaving too."
Story Quedlinburg.png
Quedlinburg
"I am so really sorry. I would be here sooner if I had been a better fighter..."
Story Orleans.png
Orleans
"I'm glad to hear you both are safe. It seems that the detour route is more dangerous."
Story Goslar.png
Goslar
"Ja, the northern detour route is quite dangerous."
Story Goslar.png
Goslar
"However... We have to bring Conductor back there. And as soon as possible."
Story Orleans.png
Orleans
"Can you tell us why?"
Story Goslar.png
Goslar
"Because there is a dimensional rift through which we cannot pass without Conductor's help. It leads to somewhere else, not here."
Story Orleans.png
Orleans
"Dimensional rifts... They are being found all over the world these days."
Story Putra.png
Putra
"Goslar, can you tell us what happened when you found that rift?"
Story Goslar.png
Goslar
"There was one special magical barrier that appeared in our path. We found a rift in it that radiated strong magic, so we did a little research. It's an odd shape for a Gate. The amount of magic is also unusual."
Story Quedlinburg.png
Quedlinburg
"The magical energy of the barrier itself was also absurdly powerful. It was more formidable than the other barriers."
Story Putra.png
Putra
"There is only one dimensional rift inside the magical barrier... This is clearly suspicious."
Story Yoshino.png
Yoshino
"Ano, may Yoshino say something, may have just found out a very important fact."
Story Putra.png
Putra
"What? The fact that I'm smart?"
Story Yoshino.png
Yoshino
"Not to worry. Zenzen jigaimasu."
Story Yoshino.png
Yoshino
"The magicians of Harz saw a dimensional rift inside the barrier. The toughness of the barrier has also been checked. So how did you two check the 'inside' of the barrier?"
Story Goslar.png
Goslar
"If you're asking me how, I just smashed it with magic as usual?"
Story Putra.png
Putra
"You smashed it!? You smashed the magic barrier!"
Story Vivienne.png
Vivienne
"And when you say you smashed it with magic, you mean... Offensive magic, oui?"
Story Goslar.png
Goslar
"Ja, I did, but... Why are you surprised? Wasn't that the mission we were given?"
Story Orleans.png
Orleans
"That's true, but I didn't expect it to be doable by just the two of you..."
Story Goslar.png
Goslar
"We only did it because we thought it was possible. Only that particular barrier could not be completely destroyed, but the rest could be done by Quedlinburg alone. It wasn't that difficult. It's just that they were growing too fast for the two of us to handle."
Story Pennsylvania.png
Pennsylvania
"I never thought that Harz would have users of offensive magic comparable to Northern Front's Unité Magique... The Harz are casters of Dream Magic. Magicians that display magic of dreams and hopes for shows."
Story Goslar.png
Goslar
"We are the exception. That's why we achieved what we did."
Story Quedlinburg.png
Quedlinburg
"I'm not very good at it, but I can do Dream Magic too. I'll show you later.
Story Pennsylvania.png
Pennsylvania
"Really? "For really!? I'm a fan of the Harz. I've read about them in a picture book when I was little and wanted to see Dream Magic and..."
Story Queensway.png
Queensway
"Miss Pennsylvania, we can talk about it another time."
Story Pennsylvania.png
Pennsylvania
"I-I'm sorry, Miss Queensway!"
Story Goslar.png
Goslar
"We need a change of plan. We need to do something about that dimensional rift, not the magical barrier. If we don't solve the fundamental problem, the Northern Front will be full of barriers."
Story Putra.png
Putra
"Hey Goslar, did any monsters come out of that rift?"
Story Goslar.png
Goslar
"Ja, there are. They were already in front of me when I noticed them."
Story Putra.png
Putra
"What kind of monsters were they? Was there anything unusual about them? Was it like a special kind of demon, or did it come in swarms?"
Story Goslar.png
Goslar
"Nein, they were just normal Mist Monsters. There weren't many of them, either. Just me and Quedlinburg alone and we were able to subdue them in no time."
Story Putra.png
Putra
"I see..."
Story Yoshino.png
Yoshino
"Youko's Gate that was built in Abyss seems different from this one."
Story Goslar.png
Goslar
"I don't deny it completely, but honestly, I find it hard to believe that it was made by a person."
Story Vivienne.png
Vivienne
"But it's not something that just happens naturally, is it? There must be a cause."
Story Quedlinburg.png
Quedlinburg
"I think it's because the guardian's power is weakening."
Story Vivienne.png
Vivienne
"Quedlinburg, what did you just say?"
Story Quedlinburg.png
Quedlinburg
"I believe that the appearance of magical barriers and dimensional rifts in this forest is due to the weakening of the guardian's power. This here is a forest chock-full of magic near the Giant Tree. Anything can happen."
Story Quedlinburg.png
Quedlinburg
"'The power of the Guardian of Verforet is abused by the King of the Ancient Elves. The effects of which are now manifesting themselves in this land', That's what a Samantha said..."
Story Pennsylvania.png
Pennsylvania
"You met a Samantha!?"
Story Quedlinburg.png
Quedlinburg
"That's right. We met one right after we defeated the monsters that came out of the rift."
Story Orleans.png
Orleans
"How close did you get to it?"
Story Quedlinburg.png
Quedlinburg
"Eh..."
Story Orleans.png
Orleans
"I'm asking how close did you get to this Samantha?"
Story Goslar.png
Goslar
"Up close and personal. It suddenly appeared right in front of us and blocked our way."
Story Orleans.png
Orleans
"What luck. It's almost a miracle that you two made it out unscathed."
Story Yakutsk.png
Yakutsk
"By the way, I heard that Northern Front Samanthas are very dangerous too."
Story Pennsylvania.png
Pennsylvania
"Samanthas of the Northern Front shy away from most people, so the chance of encountering them is not as high as in Eisengrad. But if you do meet one, you'll need to be well prepared."
Story Orleans.png
Orleans
"If you see any Samantha on the Northern Front, there is a high probability that you will be attacked by Phantom Mist, and in many cases the Samantha themselves will attack you as monsters."
Story Orleans.png
Orleans
"Especially in the latter case, it is hopeless to survive."
Story Vivienne.png
Vivienne
"But Goslar and her were not attacked. I believe what the Samantha said."
Story Orleans.png
Orleans
"There are many deceptive monsters in this area, it could even be a Mist Monster disguised as Samantha..."
Story Vivienne.png
Vivienne
"Of course I'm considering this possibility. That's what I'm saying."
Story Putra.png
Putra
"Stop. Vivienne, that's not good enough, you have to explain your reasoning in a way that Orleans can understand."
Story Vivienne.png
Vivienne
"Oui, right. I know. I know. It was my fault."
Story Vivienne.png
Vivienne
"I'm so sorry Orleans, I got a little heated and... I didn't explain myself."
Story Vivienne.png
Vivienne
"Our country is in danger. Sometimes emotions can make a person hard to think. That's what we're going through right now."
Story Vivienne.png
Vivienne
"What I mean is that this Samantha in Verforet is also in trouble. I think it needs help from Conductor."
Story Vivienne.png
Vivienne
"Whenever the Keepers of the Giant Trees are affected by something bad, Samanthas often reveal themselves to us, non? Wasn't the Samantha in Eisengrad the same as well?"
Story Yakutsk.png
Yakutsk
"That's true. That Samantha looked evil when we met one at the Valentz Ice Walls, but it gave us information and helped us."
Story Yakutsk.png
Yakutsk
"And, the Samantha we met in M. Eisengrad was not even a Samantha at all, but the Guardian of the Giant Tree herself."
Story Yoshino.png
Yoshino
"The Samantha will let us know when the Giant Tree is in trouble. This Samantha is no different."
Story Orleans.png
Orleans
"So you're saying the Samantha that Goslar and Quedlinburg saw is a cooperative Samantha who provides information for the Giant Tree?"
Story Orleans.png
Orleans
"The power of the Guardian of Verforet is abused by the King of the Ancient Elves. The effects of which are now manifesting themselves in this land..."
Story Vivienne.png
Vivienne
"The effects mentioned are the magical barriers and dimensional rifts. The culprit who trapped the Unité Magique may be in that rift."
Story Orleans.png
Orleans
"It makes sense. And we have no choice but to work with Samantha's information. If we can't take effective countermeasures, we might as well change our strategy."
Story Vivienne.png
Vivienne
"I'm curious about this King of the Ancient Elves... Can you give me your opinion on that, ma grande sainte?"
Story Orleans.png
Orleans
"The term King of the Ancient Elves is too abstract. I don't think it is an appropriate term to refer to a specific king or noble."
Story Orleans.png
Orleans
"But some of the ancient elves, who were also called kings, were hated as the dark-bloods. It is not surprising that some of them resented others, became envious, and were involved with evil forces."
Story Vivienne.png
Vivienne
"In picture books, they are usually portrayed as 'good elves'. Well, I don't think the 'good elves' would misuse the guardian's power, so in this case, I think we should think of them as 'bad elves'."
Story Yoshino.png
Yoshino
"Doesn't that sound more like 'scary elves' than 'bad elves'? Because that elf should be a very strong elf, right?"
Story Vivienne.png
Vivienne
"Hey, Yoshino. Why do you keep on saying such precise things?"
Story Orleans.png
Orleans
"This is no longer just a problem on the Northern Front. If we don't do something soon, the whole of Verforet will be enveloped in a thick Mist."
Story Orleans.png
Orleans
"Monsieur Conductor, let's change the plan. The SSS should go with Goslar's team to the dimensional rift. The priority should be on the other side of the rift, not on the barrier."
Story Orleans.png
Orleans
"Pennsylvania and I will join up with Orleans's team as planned, and we will check how well the frontline base at Gendamerie is functioning before we move on."
Conductor
Roger that. We will head to the northern detour route to investigate this dimensional rift. If we deem it necessary on the spot, we will enter the interior.
Conductor
If you have reserves, please send troops here as well and help us secure a retreat route. Reinforcements from outside the wards are not expected. Please have only those who are on the Northern Front deal with this.
Story Orleans.png
Orleans
"I pray for the best for all of you. I will see you later."
Story Pennsylvania.png
Pennsylvania
"Miss Quedlinburg, please show us your magic later. Good luck."
