I'm Nana. Nice to meet you, Yoshino-san. I'm still in training though. My master is always yelling at me. I'm so bad at sewing and it's starting to really annoy me.

Profile

Nana is a village girl in Nishiki who became fast sewing friends with Yoshino at the beginning of Chapter 3. She requested assistance from the SSS to help find her lost brooch, claimed to be a gift of her older sister.

Main Story

Story Arc 1

The SSS first met Nana while they were investigating the incident in Nishiki where people who got curious with treasure wandered recklessly into the Phantom Mist, she was distressed looking for her lost kimono belt decoration years ago. Nana informed that it was Yuuzen who spread the rumors that people can find their lost treasures again, so she also went to look for it herself. Yoshino and Nana introduced themselves and found out that both of them are seamstresses. After Nana shared information regarding Yuuzen's whereabouts, she requested Yoshino to find her lost belt decoration if possible, and Yoshino accepted her request.

Yoshino managed to found Nana's decoration after their encounter with Yuuzen, and Nana is incredibly grateful for Yoshino's help as she claimed the belt decoration was crafted by her sister, and thus is very important to her. The two quickly became best friends.

Later on, Queensway met Nana again and she brought her to Yoshino, as she reports that there's a suspicious doll-wielding person wandering near the torii on the mountains. After meeting up with said person, who's Shimoaamzu, Nana and Yoshino spent their night together, though Shimoamazu warned Conductor that it's best to suggest Yoshino to forget about Nana as her friend after brushing Nana's hair, immediately recognizing who she really is.

Before the SSS left to investigate the Buddhist temple again after their encounter with the Samantha, Nana lent her her sister's belt decoration and gifted a new one for Yoshino as protective talismans. Yoshino noticed that her gift had the name "Nene" carved on it. As the SSS investigated the Doll Purgatory that the Samantha described, Yoshino is extremely shocked to find that the cursed doll sealed and chained inside this purgatory is Nana's younger sister Nene.

Yuuzen and Shimoamazu, both Nishikese doll enthusiasts, confirmed to the SSS that Nana and Nene were a pair of Mimiharitsuki twin dolls created by the legendary Doll Master, Yuuzen I. Nishikese dolls, unlike typical dolls, are given a life by their creators and has a soul. Despite this, Nishikese doll souls are unable to pass on to the afterlife without accompanying their sworn master in a ceremonial funeral, and instead forced to wander around the earth instead or to be destroyed completely.

Yuuzen has stated that the Nana doll was burnt to nothing, while the Nene doll is missing her body, so she was forced to salvage Nene by fusing her head and soul to a crude Mist Metal Doll, even if causes her intense pain. The belt decoration that Yoshino was holding had magic to unbind Nene, making her escape. The belt decoration is actually Nene's real body, but due to Yuuzen's reckless meddling with the Phantom Mist, Nene can no longer go back to her old body. Shimoamazu planned to destroy Nene to end her suffering, much to the protest of Yuuzen - descendant of Yuuzen I.

Throughout the SSS fight with the rampaging Nene, Yoshino is the only person left who's on full denial, and her hopes were dashed when Nana reappeared, saying she can save her sister Nene. She apologized for lying to Yoshino about being a seamstress, but she trusted Yoshino can successfully release her younger sister so both sister dolls can pass on the the afterlife with their original master after centuries, and they'll be sure to reunite and play with Yoshino again. Shimoamazu completed the ritual and immolated both doll sisters, releasing both of their souls so they can finally meet with their lost mother, their owner again. Her departure deeply affected Yoshino, breaking down in tears at first, but gradually accepted her passing.

Later on, Karamachi found a belt decoration Yoshino has requested - a rusty belt with the name "Nana" carved on it. Yoshino kept it dearly for safekeeping. Yoshino swore that she'll never forget here, as even near the end of the first Story Arc, Yoshino stated that she still remembers Nana, confessing to the Samantha during her trial of the Great Tree that she often dreams about her. Even in the second Story Arc, Yoshino still remembers Nana upon seeing Miyabihime.
