Amanohashidate station entrance.

Amanohashidate Station (天橋立駅) is a passenger railway station in located in the city of Miyazu, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan, operated by the private railway company Willer Trains (Kyoto Tango Railway). The opening of the station was launched on July 31, 1925 as Miyazu Station by the Japan National Railways (JNR), at the same time as the extension of Tango Yamada Station (currently Yosano Station). In April 1, 1987, the station's ownership is obtained as part of the West Japan Railway Company (JR West) due to the privatization of JNR. Later in 1990, the transfer of the Miyazu Line to the Kitakinki Tango Railway makes it a station for the railway on April 1, renovated on July of the same year.

Electification of the railway is completed in March 16, 1996, from Miyazu station to Amanohashidate, beginning the operations of the JR West limited express train for the Hashidate-Bunshu). Ownership of the train station is transferred to Willer Trains on April 2015, connecting the station to the Kyoto Tango Railway Miyatoyo Line. The station building and the station square have been renovated closer to Japanese style on May 2015. The section from Miyazu Station on the Miyafuku Line, which is an electrified line, to this station on the Miyatoyo Line is also electrified, and a limited express train service from the JR Line is offered in this station

It is a composite ground station featuring 2-sided, 3-line platform and 2 islands, and can exchange trains and evacuate. The station building is on the side of the single platform No. 3, and the island-style platform Nos. 1 and 2 are connected by a stairs or elevator overpass. It is a manned station and is directly managed by KTR. The station building's design imitates the boathouse in Ine Town, located in the northern part of the Tango Peninsula, which also received the Japan Railway Building Association Award in 1991. The tourist information center "Tango Tourist Information Center" is also attached to the station building.

Amanohashidate sandbar, which is the namesake of Amanohashidate Station, is located within walking distance from the southern end of the station. Wikipedia

Amanohashidate sandbar.

Amanohashidate (天橋立) is one of Japan's three scenic views. The sandbar is located in Miyazu Bay in northern Kyoto Prefecture. It forms part of the Tango-Amanohashidate-Ōeyama Quasi-National Park. It is a thin strip of land connects two opposing sides of Miyazu Bay. This sand bar is 3.3 km (2.1 mi) long and covered with about 7,000 pine trees.

It can be viewed from mountains on either side of the bay or it can be traversed on foot. Near the northern end is Kono Shrine, Shinto Shrine and the southern end is Chion-ji, a Buddhist temple. On the bar is the Isoshimizu fresh water well cherished since the Heian period, which was selected as one of 100 best springs and rivers in Japan by the Environmental Agency in 1985.

Amanohashidate translates to "bridge to heaven" because it appears to be a pathway connecting heaven and earth when viewed from the mountains that rise above it on either side. The sandbar is quite thin - just 20 meters wide at its narrowest point. Most of it is occupied by pine trees. The southern part of Amanohashidate, where Bunsho-do and Chionji Temple and its gate town are located, is called the Bunshu district. It is the only sandbar in Japan that does not face the open sea as a whole, and pine forests grow in the area, and white sand beaches spread to the east. Wikipedia
